The Page Properties

The new words to learn in Chapter 2 are:

Properties - The things about a page that distinguish it from other pages.

Background - The part of a page that all objects are on top of, either a color
                       or an image file.

Double click or right click any blank area of the page (not on an object) to open the Page Properties Window. There are four tabs on the Page Properties window: General, Background, Links and Hidden.

At this point only two tabs are explained: Background and General. The Links tab is in
Chapter 8.

The Hidden tab is for experienced users and is explained in the
Search Engine guide.

Learn. Center - Chapter 2
Make a New Web Page.

To make a brand new web page, click the File Menu and click New.
A new blank page will open. Cool Page always gives the name index to
a new page.  This is important because the first page of your website, the home page, should be named
index.

Why the name
index?

This gives your website the shortest possible address.   example:

To see the homepage for Yahoo, you need only type www.yahoo.com in the web browser address bar.  The Yahoo home page, index.html, will appear in the browser window automatically.  There is no need to type the full web page address, www.yahoo.com/index.html.
Next, click the General tab and you may choose a title and a description for the page.

Page Title - appears at the top of the web browser when the page is
being viewed. (see top of your we browser now)

Description - The description of the page is used by search engines
next to their link to your page.
EXAMPLE
In the middle area above you may adjust how the page will align in the browser window.  Most all web pages are aligned Left and Top. Some pages look good when centered, however, Netscape web browsers do not support page centering.

The bottom part of General is for a site that uses frames, an advanced feature in Cool Page Pro Edition.  The site you are looking at now uses frames, individual webpages appearing at the same time in the browser window.  This is covered in the
Frames Guide.
Save Your Page

After you have set the page properties, use the File Menu to Save your page, then continue to build it. It is
important to save your page from time to time as you are building it.  Computers are not perfect and if your computer was to have a crash then you would lose all of the work you had done on the page so far.
(see the
BackUp Guide)
examples
Click the Background tab and choose a background color  for your page or choose a background image.  You can also  choose a background sound that will play when a viewer sees your page.
