What is a Favicon? A Favicon (pronounced fav-eye-con - short for Favorites Icon) is an icon file used by Internet Explorer 5.x and some other web browsers. This is the icon that you see in the browser's address bar in front of the url. You will also see it next to an entry in the Favorites list and on the IE Links Toolbar. |

A favicon is a special type of image file. It has the file extension .ico. Any icon file can be used as a favicon provided the icon file has these properties: • 16 x 16 pixels • 256 color • 1046 bytes All favicons have the same name: favicon.ico If this file is in the folder with your other web files on the server, then Internet Explorer will automatically download and use the favicon when your site is bookmarked by a visitor. Create Your Favicon If you want a unique favicon for your website then create your own. You will need a Icon Editor to do this. A very good free icon editor is: PC Magazine's IconEdit32 v1.0 - 537 KB ZIP FILE Upload Your Favicon • Upload your Favicon using a separate FTP program. • Upload using the CoolPageHelp FTP Tool. • Upload it when Publishing in Cool Page: 1. Create a new webpage with some text on it. 2. Link the text to the favicon.ico. The file will get uploaded along with the webpage when you publish it. It does not matter what text is used on the page because this is a page that no one will ever see anyway, you just want the icon file uploaded to the web server.
