What is Java?

Java is NOT the same thing as
Javascript.  They are similar in name only.

Java is a  high-level programming language developed by Sun Microsystems.  Java was originally called OAK, and was designed for handheld devices and set-top boxes.  OAK was unsuccessful so in 1995 Sun changed the name from OAK to Java and modified the language to take advantage of the growing World Wide Web.

Java is a general purpose programming language, works with all operating systems and has features that make it very good for use on the World Wide Web.

Small Java applications are called
Java Applets and can be downloaded from a web server and run on your computer by a Java-compatible web browser, such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer.

Java and Cool Page

Small Java applications,
Java Applets, are used on webpages to make the pages dynamic and interactive.  Cool Page includes a large selection of Java Applets written by one of our PlugIn authors:

Dario Sciacca is a well known and talented Java programmer.  His Java Applet collection currently includes 92 applet effects and 20 applet menu effects. (as of June, 2002)

These are no-programming-needed Java Applets.
Drag+Drop the Java Applets directly onto your page from the Objects window in the Cool Page program and configure them your desired  images and text.
