The Default Browser

When the Preview button is clicked, Cool Page will attempt to open your web page in your Default web browser.  The web browser that you use may not be configured as the Default browser.  To Preview a page, your computer must have a browser set as the Default browser.

To set Internet Explorer as the Default browser:

1. Click the Internet Options icon in Control Panel.
Other browsers as the Default browser?

To configure browsers other than Internet Explorer as the Default browser, consult the browser's help files.
3. Put a check next to "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser".
2. Click the Programs Tab.
The Temporary Folder

During Previewing, Cool Page uses this Windows folder:
C:\Windows\Temp.

Upon closing the Cool Page program, Cool Page will attempt to delete the files it has placed in the Temp folder and "clean up after itself".  Windows may not always allow these files to be deleted, especially if Windows "thinks" that the files are still in use by a program.

Many software programs do not clean up after themselves and the Temp folder can grow quite large.  To ensure that a large Temp folder does not interfere with Previewing your pages, and to ensure that your operating system functions at a high performance level, you should regularly delete all of the contents of the Temp folder.
Using .SHTML Files

Cool Page can SaveAs or Export these types of files:
.HTML
.HTM
.SHTML

By default, a
.SHTML file is not associated with any program on the
computer.  You can verify this by the icon type used for .shtml files, the default windows icon.

If you save a page as a .SHTML file, the next time you try to preview any page in Cool Page, you may get a warning that "your default web browser cannot be found".

Cool Page "remembers" your last "SaveAs" preference.  Cool Page only recognizes existing file associations, therefore you must associate .SHTML files with your default web browser.

To associate .SHTML files with your Default Browser:

1. Locate a .SHTML file on your computer.
2. Select the file by clickig it one time.
3. While holding down the Shift Key, right click the file.
4. Select "Open with...".
5. Select your Default Browser in the Programs List.
6. Put a check in the box next to "Always use this program to open this type of file".
