Tips - Receive Less Spam Do you get bombarded with junk mail such as ads and subscriptions that you never signed up for? And no matter what you do the spam never seems to slow down? There are a few things that can be done that will help reduce the amount of spam you get: 1. Sometimes a spam email will have a line that says, "Click here to be removed from our mailing list". Or it tells you to send an email to remove_me@domain.com. Never do that. Why not? Because spammers send messages to thousands of addresses at a time. They do not know if the addresses they use are vaild email accounts. How do they find out if your address is valid? When you tell them by sending a message back to them requesting to be removed! 2. When sending or forwarding a single message to a group of people always use the Blind Carbon Copy format (BCC). When you use the Carbon Copy format (CC), the message will include all of the email addresses of the people you are sending it to. A person will receive your message and then forward it to people in his address book, adding more email address to the message. Eventually, a spammer ends up with the message and he now has a list of known valid email addresses! 3. Sometimes, to participate in an online game or activity, or to download free software, you will have to fill out a form and give your email address. Do not give your real address. Instead, make one up or use a real address from a free email provider such as Yahoo Mail or Hotmail. 4. When purchasing software online it is a good idea to use the email address given to you by your ISP. If you ever have to re-download the software you usually will have to receive a confirmation from the company by email. Most companies that charge for their products do not need to sell email addresses to spammers and marketing groups. They make their money from the sales of their products. 5. When you purchase Cool Page, you will be asked if you want to receive notices by email about upgrades and special offers. You should choose "yes". When a new version is released you will know about it right away and you can download your free upgrade. You will never receive spam from us and your email address will never be sold. That is our policy. |
Is Spam Effective? Is Spam an effective marketing tool? We think not. Here's why: The purpose of promotion is to illicit a response from someone. In order to achieve that purpose, the promotion (item that is sent by postal mail, email, flyers, advertisements etc.) must actually reach the person it is sent to. The person must SEE what is being promoted. At best, spam reaches an inbox in an email client and it gets deleted or filtered and never seen or read at all. A promotion must also interest the person. If the person that receives a promotion is not interested, he will not respond. When the internet first began, Spam was an effective method of promoting one's services or goods for sale. As the internet grew, so did the amount of Spam being sent. Eventually, internet users grew to dislike receiving unsolicited advertisements in their email. Today, the newer email programs have built in Spam protection/filters or the user can set up message rules to automatically delete Spam. Also, there exists a new and growing market of anti-Spam software. While some may say that Spam IS an effective marketing tool because it seems to work for them, we strongly disagree and we do not condone the use of it as a means of promoting your services and products.
